We recommend that you purchase and manage your domain name through a reputable third‑party domain registrar (such as Cloudflare). This approach gives you full ownership and control of your domain and follows industry best practice — keeping your domain and hosting services with separate providers reduces risk and improves flexibility.

Step‑by‑Step Guide to Registering a Domain Name
Follow the steps below to register your domain with any trusted registrar. In this example we use Cloudflare Registrar, but you are free to use any domain registrar of your choice - the instructions may vary slightly between different registrars.
We recommend using Cloudflare as your domain registrar as it provides domains at-cost, with zero markups or hidden renewal fees. It also includes free WHOIS privacy, automatically hiding your personal contact information from public view.
1. Choose Your Domain Name
Select a name that reflects your business, brand, or purpose.
Keep it short, memorable, and easy to spell.
Choose an appropriate extension (e.g.,
.com,.co.uk,.org).
2. Check Availability
Use your chosen registrar’s search tool to see if the domain is available.
If your preferred name is taken, consider slight variations or alternative extensions.

3. Add the Domain to Your Basket
Once available, add the domain to your cart.
Review optional add-ons such as privacy protection (often recommended to hide your personal details from public WHOIS records).

4. Create an Account
Sign up with the registrar using your name and contact details.
Ensure all information is accurate, as this is linked to your domain ownership.

5. Complete the Purchase
Choose your registration period (typically 1–10 years).
Proceed with payment to secure the domain.
To avoid accidental expiration, enable auto-renewal within your registrar account. This is extremely important to prevent losing your domain name.

Best Practices
Retain Ownership: Always ensure the domain is registered in your name and controlled by you.
Keep Login Details Safe: Your registrar account is critical — store your credentials securely.
Monitor Expiry Dates: Even with auto-renewal, keep track of renewal dates and payment methods.
Avoid Bundling Everything Together: Using different providers for domain registration and hosting is best practice and helps protects your business from service disruptions. Even though we’d like the extra revenue, this is why we do not provide domain registration at Launch For Free.
